BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Abel has 16 years of intellectual property legal experience as a DC-based patent practitioner, in-house counsel of several Fortune 50 companies, counsel for fast-paced Silicon Valley start-ups, and in several partner positions in private practice. Jeff began his career practicing patent law in Washington, DC, where he benefitted greatly from on-the-job mentoring under several leading IP practitioners. There, he represented several large foreign corporations such as NGK Insulators, Ltd. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. Jeff developed a close nexus with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including issuing well over 300 patents and developing a successful track record before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. In addition, Jeff has robust experience in strategic prosecution activities, including patent prosecution of company-critical patent applications, reissue and re-exam applications.
Jeff also gained appreciation for the needs of large corporate clients as he held in-house patent counsel positions at Motorola, Inc., supporting its Semiconductor Products Sector (now Freescale), as well as at General Electric Company, supporting its Corporate Research and Development operations in upstate New York. In addition, Jeff has deep experience in technology transactions, including that gained during his position as a senior technology transactions attorney with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Today, Jeff focuses on high value-added IP services for his clients, oftentimes devoting his time to complex and highly critical IP matters. In addition, Jeff devotes considerable time to mentor associates of the firm.
